The Deer Isle Stonington Historical Society was formed in 1959 with the goal of collecting and preserving "Historical facts, records and relics pertaining to Deer Isle, Stonington and adjoining communities and islands of East Penobscot Bay in the State of Maine".

Our original building, the Seller's House was built in 1830 by Joseph Sellers for his bride Salome Sylvester. The house was restored and furnished much as it was when the Seller's lived there and include some of the original furnishings, the summer kitchen and tool room.

Rotating displays of period clothing are also on display. The Marine exhibit hall contains a variety of marine art, tools, instruments, ship models and America's Cup memorbelia. The The original vault houses Indian artifacts and sweetgrass baskets. Our archives house an extensive collection of genealogical information, photographs, documents and library. We offer a knowledgeable staff and pleasant area for research. The former Sunset Post Office, now on the property includes a P. O. display and sales of books, maps and gifts.
